A procurement team visiting your website is trying to answer six questions: what tolerance you hold, what certifications you carry, your minimum order, your lead time, what documentation ships with a batch, and who already buys from you. A B2B website that answers all six gets the RFQ. A website that answers none of them gets a polite nothing, because Gartner's research puts roughly 80 percent of the B2B buying journey before any contact with a vendor (source: Corporate Visions, B2B Buying Behavior, 2026). By the time your phone rings, the vetting is already done.

We tested this on a live search, and the result should worry every factory owner in Telangana.

What did we find when we vetted suppliers the way a buyer would?

On 28 August 2026 we searched for a precision components manufacturer in Hyderabad, the way a sourcing manager at an OEM would, and read the supplier pages on the first page end to end. Of the eight results, one was a TradeIndia directory page. At least four of the company pages belonged to firms in Pune, Faridabad and Surat running Hyderabad locality pages. And here is the number: we scored four pages against the six procurement questions, and the only verified Hyderabad manufacturer on the page answered zero of six. Parekh Wire Cut of Surat answered all six. Robocon CNC of Pune answered five.

Read that again. On a Hyderabad supplier search, the local factory loses the paper vetting to companies six hundred to a thousand kilometres away, because they wrote the page and it did not.

What are the six things a procurement page must answer?

One, the tolerance or specification you actually hold. Robocon states ±0.005 mm in its hero section. The Hyderabad page we read said precision, accuracy and quality several dozen times and never printed a number. A buyer cannot put an adjective into a drawing.

Two, certifications, shown rather than claimed. ISO 9001:2015 named in text is the floor. Parekh Wire Cut goes further and publishes the certificate images themselves, along with GST and MSME registrations. A buyer forwarding your page to a quality head needs something to attach.

Three, minimum order quantity, whatever the answer is. No minimum is a selling line for prototype work. A thousand pieces a week is a selling line for production buyers. Silence is the only wrong answer, because the buyer assumes the worst version for their case.

Four, lead time as a number. Prototypes in 5 to 7 days, production in 10 to 15, quote in 24 hours. Every one of those appears on the out of state pages we read. Timely delivery, the phrase on the local page, is not a lead time.

Five, what documentation ships with the batch. Inspection reports, material certificates, traceability. Buyers in pharma, defence and export supply chains are audited on this, so a supplier who says it upfront saves them an email and a doubt. We covered why this matters doubly for overseas buyers in our export marketing playbook for Indian manufacturers.

Six, who already buys from you. Parekh Wire Cut shows logos including L&T, Godrej, Adani and Apollo Tyres. If client names are under NDA, an industry list with real specifics, reactor components for two Patancheru API plants, does most of the same work. No proof at all leaves the buyer with only your word.

Why does the out of state firm beat the local one at its own query?

Because the firms treating the web as a sales channel write pages that sell, and most genuinely local manufacturers still treat the website as a brochure that exists to not be embarrassing. The Hyderabad firm we read has real addresses, a real factory on NH-44 near Medak, a GST number and a WhatsApp line. The substance exists. The page just answers none of the six questions, and spends its length explaining what CNC machining is, which no procurement engineer has ever needed a supplier to explain.

This is the same pattern we measured on our own site in why AI search quotes your blog and skips your service page, and the same one that decides local search in Kompally: whoever writes the specific page wins the query, and physical presence only pays when the page proves it.

What should a factory owner do this month?

Open your own site next to your best competitor's and score both against the six questions. Then fix them in order of cheapness. The tolerance figure, MOQ and lead times are an afternoon with whoever runs your shop floor. The certificate images are a scan. The documentation section is a paragraph your quality head can dictate. The client proof takes longest because permissions take longest, so start those conversations now and use anonymised specifics in the meantime.

Put the six answers on the page a buyer lands on, not buried in a PDF brochure, and phrase the headings as the questions buyers ask, because those same answers are what AI assistants quote when a sourcing manager asks for suppliers, which we covered in AIO for B2B companies.

Key takeaway: Scored against the six questions a procurement team asks, the only verified Hyderabad manufacturer on the first page of a Hyderabad supplier search on 28 August 2026 answered zero. A Surat firm answered all six and a Pune firm five. The factory is local, the answers are not, and the RFQ follows the answers.

Frequently asked questions

Our real specifications vary by job. How do we publish a tolerance without overpromising?

Publish the tightest tolerance you reliably hold with the material and process named, and state that final tolerance is confirmed per drawing. Buyers read a qualified number as honesty. Only silence and round marketing claims read as evasion.

Most of our clients will not let us name them. What proof can we show?

Use anonymised specifics: the industry, the component, the volume and the years supplied. Valve bodies for a Hyderabad pharma OEM since 2019 convinces without breaching anything. Ask your two longest standing clients for permission anyway, one logo changes the page.

We get all our orders through referrals and repeat buyers. Why fix the website now?

Because referred buyers verify you online before calling, and their procurement teams need the six answers to raise a PO. The website does not replace the referral, it stops the referral dying during vetting.

Should the six answers also go on our IndiaMART listing?

Put them wherever buyers look, but your own site is where they matter most, because it is the one page where you are not listed beside ten competitors quoting the same job. Our piece on building demand beyond IndiaMART covers the split.
